What is Run to the Sun?
‘Run to the Sun’ is an annual 24hour relay event. The focus is on fun. Every year we aim to raise much needed funds for RTProjects, an independent, Durham based mental health charity.
You can support our work by taking part in 'Run to the Sun' 2018 : £10 adults, £8 Students, £2 kids.

This event is also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of all involved with RTProjects, including:
- Our service users, many of whom have overcome considerable personal challenges. Most would not have believed that they could take part in an event such as this but many will be there so come and say hello.
- Our wonderful, amazing volunteers who give up their time to help others, many of whom will be at ‘Run to the Sun’ They are indeed very special people.
- Many many people and organisations who have supported us over the last 10 years. That includes YOU! Over 100 people took part last year so come along and have fun and feel the feel goodness of this event.
Based on the idea that ‘the baton must not stop’ for 24 hours, including right through the night, the baton will be carried by people of all ages, abilities, all in a spirit of fun with fancy dress as a big theme.
There will be activities and entertainment including: live music, mindfulness walks, face painting. Meet Jet & Ben the police dogs, make something at the craft stall, try some delicious home made information about other local services and more! You can even camp out. This year we are planning a midnight lantern parade so come along and make a lantern?
How to Fundraise for RTP
Run to the Sun is a fundraiser, so please do try to raise as much as you can on top of your entry fee!
To fundraise, set up your own fundraising page on MyDonate, and link it to RTProjects Run to the Sun event.
You have until 31st August for your fundraising efforts to be counted towards the competition for highest amount raised. However you can of course continue to give us any money you have raised at any time after the event.
Remember, there’s a prize for the person or team who has raised the most funds. This year it could be you!!
If you would like to support RTProjects regularly then how about setting up a regular donation? Just £5 a month could help us provide support for someone experiencing mental distress. A small donation can go a long way in a small charity!

There will be prizes for:

- Slowest lap time.
- Wackiest way of getting around the track
- Longest time spent on the track
- Longest distance covered
- Most money raised by an individual fundraiser,
- Most money raised by a team or group.
There will also be a tombola with lots of prizes to be won.
Who can take part?
Absolutely everyone! Children... Runners…Chickens… Walkers… Families… Wheelchair users… Non-Runners… Batman…Students… Dog walkersand their Dogs…..You!
Your team could be your School… your local Pub pals… your work colleagues?
It’s a great opportunity to have fun, while also helping others by supporting a fantastic local charity.
Everyone knows that physical activity good for you…. but did you know that there are also five ways to mental wellbeing?... and one of them is ‘Giving’ …so taking part is good for YOUR mental health too!
When is it?
The Big Start is at 12 noon on Saturday 16th June 2018, led by a giant mole. It finishes at 12 noon on Sunday 17th June 2018. We doubt the mole will still be running, but will still be around for hugs.
Where does it take place?
The event takes place at Maiden Castle Athletics track, behind the Graham Sports Centre.
There is ample parking on site. Please remember to register your vehicle at reception.
On the day
If you haven’t signed up online there will be a sign in table at the track where you can sign in and register. Look out for ‘Frank’ the Meer cat. You can pay on the day with cash or card.
Please let one of our volunteers know you’ve arrived. Even if you signed up online.
Feel free to come back as many times as you want, it’s actually a little bit more-ish…
